What is a warm introduction? If someone in your network knows the person you want to interview, always request a warm introduction or warm hand-off. This is when a mutual contact introduces you to the person, either via email or in person. Warm introductions are more effective than cold outreach because:

• The person is more likely to respond positively to someone referred by a trusted contact
  • You immediately have credibility and context for the connection
  • The conversation often starts on a more personal, trusting note

How to request a warm introduction: Ask your mutual contact if they'd be comfortable introducing you via email and offer to draft the introduction email for them to send.

If no warm introduction is available, that’s okay! You can reach out directly. This is often referred to as a “cold” call or “cold” outreach.
