Investigate Yourself: Imagine you are a hiring manager at a public health organization who is reviewing your online presence to learn more about you.
Google Yourself Search "[Your Name] + public health" and see what comes up. What impression would someone get of you from the first page of results?
Audit Your Social Media:
- Look at your LinkedIn posts/comments. What themes emerge?
- Review your social media posts. What do they reveal about your interests and values?
- Check your email signature, bio lines, and "about" sections across platforms. Do they have consistent messaging?
- What topics do you post or comment about most frequently?
As the hiring manager, you need to share your observations with the Program Director.
- Was it easy to find you online?
- What level of experience do you have?
- What types of posts (if any) do you make? Is there a topic you revisit frequently?
- How would you describe the tone of your posts?
-
Audit Someone You Admire. Find a public health professional whose professional presence resonates with you and examine:
- What do they post about consistently?
- Is there a consistent theme in their posts (e.g., do they tell stories, always end with takeaways, share posts of about the same length)?
- How do they write/communicate (Tone, style, personality)?
- What makes their content engaging or memorable?
- How do they position themselves professionally? Do they post about more personal topics or keep it strictly professional?
- What elements of their brand do you find authentic or compelling?
-
